10 Tearjerking Anime That Will Make You Cry

As some of you know, anime can make us cry. Now you ask, why would someone watch an anime that'd make you cry? Crying can be seen somewhat as comforting and it make us slightly more sensitive to things. Who doesn't like a good old feels-train every once in a while, as long it's not actually a super sad thing. In honor of tearjerking things, here's ten anime (movies included) that might make you cry after watching them (please note that these are in no specific order):

1. Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai (Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day)

AnoHana is a renowned anime that is said to make even the "manliest of men" shed a tear.

AnoHana consists of a group of teenagers whose past separates them after a tragic accident. Each individual guilts themself for the what had happened in some way and they each try to forget it, but simply can't. Except for Jinta Yadomi that is. Jinta doesn't even have the chance to do so because his childhood friend, nicknamed Menma, appears and grants him a forgotten wish. He thought he was hallucinating from the Summer heat because after all, Menma died years ago. Good luck to those looking to watch this great slice of life, drama anime and not cry. To those who have done so, props to you, you are practically emotionless now.

2. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April)

This outstanding musical romance, drama is a must-see. It shows how important it is to love and have friends as well as how important and joyful music can be.

The story follows mainly male character, Kousei Arima, and a female character, Kaori Miyazono. Kousei, in the past, was basically a music robot, a prodigious pianist at that but with the passing away of his own mother, Kousei became traumatized and unable to hear the sound of his own piano playing. Two years pass and Kousei has a unique encounter with the violinist Kaori. From there their relationship builds and the anime goes on.

Seeming like a peaceful romance, school anime this anime will give you a one-way trip on the feels-train that you simply won't be able to forget. May seem boring at first, but give it a chance. You won't regret doing so... or actually... maybe you will after bawling your eyes out.

3. Clannad: After Story

This anime takes place after the characters Tomoya Okazaki and Nagisa Furukawa graduate from high school. They experience growing up together. As the couple push through the hardships of life together they end up confronting many things.

Watch this anime and go through adulthood alongside these characters, but try your best not to cry.
Clannad: After Story is the sequel to Clannad, but to watch it you don't need to have watched the first season. After Story is amongst the most, if not the most, notorious anime that'll make anyone cry.

Genres: Drama, Fantasy, Romance, Slice of Life, Supernatural

4. Angel Beats

The setting of this one is super unique. This anime takes place in the supposed afterlife where a group of teenagers called the Shinda Sekai Sensen (Afterlife Battlefront) are "at war" with a girl named Tenshi. If you die here you simply "respawn" afterwards. What's the point of this afterlife? You'll find out as the anime progresses.

Angel Beats is one of those shows where even if you don't like drama anime you can watch it for the action and comedic parts and maybe even get into drama anime. Besides being a very lively anime with only occasional sad scenes, the end will very likely get you emotional.

Incredibly great anime, not just for being a tearjerking drama, but for simply being a good and unique anime. You're missing out if you don't watch it.

7. Kimi no Na wa. (Your Name.)

Amongst this list, this is easily my personal favorite. An outstanding and well-made anime movie. I can't recommend this enough. If you haven't watched this you're definitely missing out. Just remembering it makes me feel uneasy.

Kimi no Na wa. takes place in two different places at a time. How? The story contains Mitsuha Miyamizu, a high school girl who lives the life of a boy, Taki Tachibana, who lives in Tokyo as a high school student that wants to become an architect. One day, Mitsuha wakes up in an unknown room in Tokyo, but in Taki's body. The same is happening to Taki, who is is Mitsuha's body in the countryside. This phenomenon has a large impact on them and in their daily lives and thus they begin to search for one another. What will happen if they happen to find each other?

Kimi no Na wa. is an original one hour and fourty-five minute film worth each second of watching. I'll repeat myself... watch it. You won't regret it. Come on, it's ranked #1 on MAL after only half a year for a reason.

8. Byousoku 5 Centimeter (5 Centimeters Per Second)

5 Centimeters Per Second is about two friends, Takaki Toono and Akari Shinohara, who are torn apart when Akari moves away. Despite being away from each other they continue to communicate through mail. Eventually Takaki discovers that he will also be moving, so he wants to meet Akari one last time. Years passed they grew further apart with less contact with one another but with the memory of each other still alive and both wondering if they'll ever meet again.

Well it may not really be "sad" so to speak, but if that summary doesn't peek your interest I don't know what will.

Upon facing many American bombings, city after city, Japan is devastated. The story revolves around Seita and his sister Setsuko, two children whose lives were completely ruined by the war. Left with no choice they attempt to move to the countryside. Now what will the future bestow upon them?

10. Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (Wolf Children)
