Fake KissAnime Clones Reign Supreme After Real Site's Shutdown

With the shutdown of the popular illegal streaming service, many users mistakenly flock to fake clones of the site.

A few days ago the largest pirate site on the web, which had more traffic than even popular torrent site The Pirate Bay, was abruptly brought to an end by its owners. In a world that is now KissAnime-less, many users have been seeking alternatives to the mega streaming site, while others are left wondering what all the commotion is about.

KissAnime was no stranger to having copies of the site flourish on the web, to the disdain of the owners. The site had a massive following, so naturally their would be those who'd pop up seeking to benefit from its success. Links to these fakes have lied dormant in search engine results for years due the real site's links haven been taken down via DMCA requests, and are now growing in even more prominence. Many of these sites contain a similar database of titles as the original, though often in lower quality. KissAnime had a history of changing domain names frequently due to threats of litigation, which led to users of the site conforming to its sporadic changes. Unfortunately, this has led to many falling for  these fake clones as well, some left unaware of the original site's closure.

The owners of various online anime communities have cautioned against these sites, as many of them are taking advantage of the its closure by putting statements on their homepages stating that "the site is back" or "it was just a prank."

It's important to note that absolutely anybody can buy a domain using the word "kissanime" and set it up to look and work like the real website. Most of these clones contain harmful malware and use phishing tactics to obtain personal information from visitors. Some even go as far as to run crypto mining scripts in your browser that utilize your computer's resources for the site runner's personal gain.

The last official domain name extension for the original KissAnime was ".ru". The owners of the site have stated this to be a permanent shutdown, and that all of the sites content has been deleted due to pressure from copyright owners.

On the flip side, many anime fans see the site's closure as a victory for the anime industry, and are looking forward to some legal alternatives such as the much anticipated AnimeLog YouTube channel  for their free viewing needs.
